Cosplay, originally known as "costuming," originated in America in the 1930s. It gained popularity in the 1980s at comic conventions. In 1984, the term "cosplay" was coined in Japan, and it was then reimagined in the early 1990s as a performance art form centered around comics, television shows, games, and movies.

ST. LOUIS MIGHTY CON


Good news, everyone! Mighty Con is marching triumphantly back for the St. Louis Comic Con!  On August 5th, Mighty Con will be bringing the show for the First Time ever to the Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville IL.. The St. Louis Comic Con will feature over 100 artist tables, vendor booths, and special guests.  But we’re also bringing cash prize cosplay contests, video and table top gaming tournaments, and a whole weekend of fun! St. Louis' largest comic book and pop culture event!

When Is The St. Louis Comic Book Convention?

Mighty Con St. Louis takes place from Saturday, August 5th - 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, August 6th -10:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Where is the St. Louis Comic Book Convention?

Mighty Con St. Louis takes place at a new location this year, the Gateway Convention Center, 1 Gateway Drive, Collinsville IL.

How much is the St. Louis Comic Book Convention?

Adults are $18 for general admission on Saturday & $15 for a pass on Sunday, $25 for a weekend pass, and as always kids 12 and under are FREE.  But you don’t just get admission for that.  Every person who attends Mighty Con gets a free comic book at the door to get their day started off right.

Cosplaying is like embarking on an epic quest, but instead of slaying dragons, you're slaying boredom. It's a labor of love that involves masterfully crafting your outfit or, if you lack sewing skills like me, throwing copious amounts of money at someone who does.

Research is crucial in the cosplay world, probably more important than that exam you're cramming for. You need to immerse yourself in the character's universe, studying every detail as if your life depends on it. And let's not forget the countless hours spent watching tutorials on YouTube because apparently, you need a PhD in special effects makeup just to recreate a villain's sinister smile. 





Then comes the moment of truth. The unveiling of your cosplay masterpiece. You've meticulously pieced it all together, only to realize you've forgotten to factor in essentials like breathing or eating. But who needs air or sustenance when you can perfectly replicate the intricate curls of your favorite character's hair? Priorities, people!

Ah, the final touch: posing. Your creator didn't bless you with the agility of a ninja, but no matter! You'll awkwardly stumble through a few trial poses before settling on one that makes you look like a slightly confused action figure. Who needs natural grace when you can strike a pose that screams, "I might not know Kung Fu, but I can take one heck of a selfie!"


Getting into character is the cherry on top. It's like method acting, but with more spandex and fewer Oscar nominations. You'll find yourself practicing your character's catchphrases in the shower, because nothing says "cleanliness" like reciting lines from a fantasy world. And when that magical moment arrives and you step into the convention, you'll become the living, breathing embodiment of your favorite character.


Sure, cosplaying requires more effort than getting ready for a wedding or tax season combined, but oh boy, is it worth it! The joy of seeing other fans recognize and appreciate your dedication is unparalleled. Plus, when you realize there are a million other weirdos out there just like you, dressing up and having the time of their lives, you'll feel like you've found your tribe.
